Do you have an innovative idea that could help solve a global problem? If so, your team could win up to $6,000!

What is the Challenge?

The challenge

Teams need to think of a global issue and/or challenge that the world is facing and present their unique solution before a panel of judges. You are encouraged to refer to the UN Sustainable Development Goals page when choosing the global challenge that your team will tackle.

Prizes

Each member of the winning team will receive $2,000 and a trip to compete in the International World’s Challenge Challenge at Western University. Flight, hotel, and meals will be included.

Each member of the 2nd place team will receive $1,000.

Who can participate?

The World’s Challenge Challenge at UBC is open to teams of three individuals. You must be a current UBC graduate or undergraduate student in good standing. Teams are encouraged to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds or areas of study. How to enter

  1. Visit the online registration page

  2. Submit information about each member of your team

  3. Submit your team’s responses to the following questions:

    1. What global challenge will your team address?

    2. In approximately 300 words, describe the global challenge and explain why your team is interested in it and why it is important to resolve it.

    3. In approximately 400 to 800 words, provide a brief outline of your team’s unique solution to address the chosen global challenge

Key dates

Oct. 20

Registration for the World’s Challenge Challenge opens.

Dec. 3

Deadline for teams to submit their online application for review.

Jan. 12

UBC Finalists will be notified by The Global Lounge by this date.

Jan. 13 - Feb. 7 Finalists prepare their 5-7 minute team presentation.
Feb. 8

Finalists present their global issue and solution before a panel of judges. A winning team and a second place team will be selected and announced at an evening event on this date, which all finalists are expected to attend.

Jun. 3 - 8 The winning team participates in the International World’s Challenge Challenge at Western University for a chance to win $30,000 ($10,000 per member)!
