Florence Nightingale Elementary School

About the project

Groups of 3-5 UBC student volunteers will lead groups of between 20-25 Nightingale Elementary students in hands-on, science-based activities covering the following topics: the scientific method, energy, weather, water sources, and healthy living.


Kick-off Orientation :

Saturday, February 3 from 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Project :

Wednesday, February 21 from 8:30am to 3:30pm

Thursday, February 22 from 8:30am to 3:30pm

Friday, February 23 from 8:30am to 3:30pm

What you will do

  • Safely facilitate and engage in scientific activities with students from Kindergarten to Grade 7
  • Inspire students with enthusiasm and positive behavior
  • Educate student in basic scientific principles
  • Participate in reflection activities at the end of each day
  • Be an ambassador for the UBC community and role model for the younger students


  • Basic knowledge of scientific concepts (high school scientific knowledge is sufficient)
  • Ability to individually facilitate activities safely
  • Ability to work within a group with range of individuals (teachers, students, fellow volunteers)
  • Experience in working with children (beneficial but not required)
