About the project

This is a new collaborative CLP project with Fraser Valley Elementary School. Fraser Valley is a recognized IB candidate school located in Langley. You will be involved in a 3 Half-Day Robotics and Coding workshop with a class of grade 5-7 Students. Workshops will include offline coding activities, building simple robots, and S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) concepts. These workshops are a vehicle to deliver the BC Science curriculum themes such as: computational thinking, design application, leadership, team work, and critical thinking.

UBC Student volunteers will have the opportunity to work closely with students as well as student leaders, to lead and facilitate activities. You will act as a role model to inspire and engage young students.

Scheduling

Kick-off Orientation :

Saturday, February 2 from 12:30pm – 4:00pm

Project :

Wednesday, February 20 from 11:00am - 3:30pm

Thursday, February 21 from 11:00am - 3:30pm

Friday, February 22 from 11:00am - 3:30pm

What you will do

  • Assist in the setup, facilitation, and take down of activities
  • Be familiar with activity purpose and is able to answer simple STEM related questions
  • Each student volunteer will be working closely with a group of 4-5 students
  • Engage students by being an enthusiastic leader
  • Collaborate with leaders to lead short, small group activities independently

Qualifications

  • Ability to travel to project location (Langley) is a must
  • Enthusiastic and enjoy working with kids
  • Background in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math is an asset
  • Basic coding knowledge is an asset
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Positive and Team-oriented attitude
  • Leadership Skills and ability to lead small group activities
