About the project

LMNH engages school-age children from diverse backgrounds within their community, by providing in-school and after school multicultural games and literacy programs. Join us in running fun and interactive activities to help children experience diversity, inclusiveness, and friendship. You will be facilitating multicultural activities within both gym and classroom settings.


Kick-off Orientation :

Saturday, February 3 from 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Project :

Monday, February 19 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm*

Tuesday, February 20 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm**

Thursday, February 22 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm**

Friday, February 23 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm**

*Prep Day at Little Mountain Neighborhood House; location subject to change

**Program facilitation at the elementary schools within LMNH’s catchment :  

General Brock Elementary School (4860 Main St, Vancouver)

David Livingstone Elementary School (315 E 23rd Ave, Vancouver)

General Wolfe Elementary School (4251 Ontario St, Vancouver)

Mackenzie Elementary School (960 E 39th Ave, Vancouver)

What you will do

  • Have a good understanding/be familiar with the multicultural games and literacy activities that we are going to provide for the children; training and de-briefing on the activities will be provided before reading week.
  •  Act as ambassadors of UBC and positive role models for the students
  •  Explain the cultural origin of the games to the children in an easily understood manner
  •  Coordinate and facilitate multicultural games and literacy activities to groups of 10-20 students
  •  Ensures that each game rotation runs in a timely and safe manner (each game should last ~15-20min)
  •  Set up and take down activity stations in the gym and classroom at the start and end of each day


  •  Enthusiasm and interest in working with children ages 5-10 years old
  •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  •  Interest in promoting diversity and respect for learning about other cultures
  •  Willingness to share their cultural views and experiences
  •  Passion for kinesthetic learning and/or literacy education
  •  Ability to adapt to new environments with a positive mind-set
