About the project

Students will work with UBC student leaders, project leaders, and staff at the Ministry of Citizen’s Services to develop, animate or film, edit, and produce videos to encourage and inspire sustainable practices within the BC government staff. These videos will engage BC public servants around the province in improving the environmental performance of their workplaces and lifestyle, an essential part of the BC Government’s strategy to tackle climate change.


One or two meetings before Reading Week (site visit and/or review video scripts)

Kick-off Orientation :

Saturday, February 3 from 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Project :

Monday, February 19 from 8:30am-4:00pm

Tuesday, February 20 from 8:30 am-4:00pm

Wednesday, February 21 from 9:00am-2:00pm

What you will do

  • Assist with filming, editing, and production of promotional video content
  • Work in teams to research and develop educational videos inspiring sustainability and climate change
  • Work alongside Ministry of Citizen’s Services staff in a public office setting
  • Learn about building technology and corporate communications at the Ministry of Citizen’s Services
  • Find creative and nimble ways to educate and engage BC Government employees to encourage best environmental behavior of staff


  • Experience with animation, filming, photography, video editing and digital media an asset
  • Experience with Photoshop or iMovie an asset
  • Creative and independently motivated
  • Ability to work with Mac an asset
  • Interest and knowledge in marketing, communication and sustainable practices
  • Organized and strong attention to detail
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working in teams
  • Students from all faculties welcomed (background in environmental sciences, marketing, communication, visual arts, and psychology would be an asset)
