Students will work in a team to film, act in, and edit videos for Options Community Services Society, a non-profit registered charity providing social services in Surrey, Delta, White Rock, and Langley. The videos are for their educational program on healthy relationships and boundaries for youth with autism and developmental disabilities. The videos will address important themes and will complement the group’s discussion and learning.
Two videos will be filmed: one about healthy boundaries for online interactions, and one about navigating lowered-boundary situations. The three day project includes two days of editing and filming, and one day of viewing and sharing the final product with the staff at Options Community Services Society. Scripts will be provided, but the student volunteers will be invited to generate ideas and discussion during the project days to help Options staff develop the scripts further.
The videos created during Reading Week will be of great value to Options, and are anticipated to be in use for years to come. This unique project would be a great experience for students interested in film, acting, social services, or working with youth.
