Queen Alexandra Elementary School

About the project

Queen Alexandra Elementary invites you to lead and support interactive projects throughout the entire school.

As a volunteer, you will work closely with students and teachers from one or two classrooms to help facilitate fun project activities using an integrated arts, science, and social sciences approach. Over the course of the three days, you will help the students with their planned activities that may include field trips, lesson plans, art, drama, and physical exercise. The themed projects will focus on sustainability, water conservation, environmental issues, social responsibility, outdoor education, art, and children’s literature.

By the end of the three days, Queen Alexandra students will have built positive relationships with you and be open to future possibilities for themselves. As inner city kids can often have a narrow outlook for their own futures, the hope is that by engaging with you through interactive activities, the students might begin to imagine themselves continuing on to post-secondary education.

This is a whole school community project. The UBC student team will be working directly with students on a variety of interactive projects.
