About the project

Simon Fraser Elementary School’s Science Fair is a 3-day project focusing on the systems of the human body. Students in grades 4 to 7 (ages 9-12) will be selecting their own topics and will be creating a poster board or other project. The final projects will be displayed to the rest of the school and for parent viewing on the last day of the project (the day of the Science Fair!)

This is an ideal opportunity for you if you are interested in:

  • Mentoring and working with elementary school students in small groups (2-3 students)
  • Making a lasting and impactful difference in a child’s life
  • Developing your leadership and communication skills
  • Gaining experience working and fostering professional relationships in a rapidly-changing real-life environment
  • Giving back to the community while applying knowledge learned in the classroom

Scheduling 

Kick-off Orientation :

Saturday, February 3 from 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Project :

Wednesday, February 21 from 8:30am - 3:00pm

Thursday, February 22 from 8:30am - 3:00pm

Friday, February 23 from 8:30am - 4:30pm

What you will do

  • Mentoring 2-3 students as they work on their projects and presentations for the science fair
  • Develop your leadership skills by engaging in hands-on activities that promote science and engineering among elementary school students.

Qualifications

  • Committed to attending all three days - you will be developing close relationships with your small groups
  • Energetic and organized
  • Desire to give back to the community
  • Interested in body systems (at the elementary school level)
  • Experience with or enjoys working with kids and wants to help them succeed
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Independent and reliable, but also a team player
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
