About the project

This 3 day project will involve UBC volunteers interacting with elementary school students from Walter Moberly Elementary School located in South Vancouver to promote intergenerational learning through sharing passion, storytelling, and community building. Our goal is to inspire grade 1-2 students to reflect on self-growth and their potential as life-long learners. Volunteers will participate in both classroom and outdoor settings to share their passion and experiences as well as assist in learning activities.

What you will do

  • Creating personal connections with students through engaging in conversations about self-values
  • Facilitating activities with other volunteers and teachers
    • Example activities:
      • Arts and crafts using natural materials
      • Outdoor activities such as planting seeds (weather dependent)
      • Classroom learning through discussions and storytelling
      • Ice breaker games
  • Mentoring a handful of students by checking in with them at the end of each day
  • Be a positive role model while representing UBC in the community
  • Helping and engaging in various activities about self-value and growth


  • Enthusiastic about working with children in grade 1-2
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Interest in making a positive impact on the students
  • Positive and encouraging attitude
  • Able to commit to all 3 days of the project
  • Flexible and able to adapt to change


  • Volunteers are expected to arrange their own transportation to the school (1000 East 59th Avenue, Vancouver)
  • Volunteers are expected to arrange for their own lunch and snacks. There are food options within a 10 minute walk from the school
