About the project

Students ranging from kindergarten to grade 5 will be participating in exploring Indigenous Culture through a variety of the arts, such as music, dance, arts & craft, storytelling, drama, and cooking. Students will participate in these activities to increase knowledge, acceptance, empathy, awareness, and appreciation of Indigenous histories, traditions, cultures, and contributions among all students.

What you will do

  • Foster appreciation and respect for Indigenous culture
  • Be familiar with the Indigenous culture that will be explored through the various activities; training and de-briefing on the activities will be provided before Reading Week
  • Facilitate interactive activities with support from teachers
  • Create a safe and enjoyable learning environment for students
  • Role-model responsible and respectful behavior in the classroom

Qualifications

  • Interest in and/or knowledge of Indigenous cultures and communities
  • Enthusiasm and interest in working with students in Kindergarten - Grade 5
  • Willingness to learn indigenous culture and act as an effective role-model
  • Imaginative and creative, willing to take risks
  • Adapt to new experiences with a positive mindset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exercise tact and discretion and to manage potentially difficult situations
