Kids First is an after-school program that is referral based. The program focuses on supporting children’s academic and social emotional needs. Hastings Elementary school is located in a mixed-income area and many of our students are at-risk and considered vulnerable from a socio-economic perspective. They also face emotional and family-structure issues. We provide a structured and safe environment for students to receive help with their school work and the opportunity to experience a range of healthy activities provided by caring adults.
Kids First has a dual focus. The first portion of the program provides academic support for students via homework help and tutoring in a safe and supportive atmosphere. The second part combines a variety of social and life skills activities such as cooking, art, sports, and much more. We can have up to 60 kids per day, with 6 staff and a ranging number of volunteers.
We work as a team to provide a quality program with academic and emotional support for the kids, which requires the efforts of all the team members to accomplish. Our team includes the Teacher, Programmer, the kids, Program staff, and our volunteers. It takes the effort and enthusiasm of the entire to team to make this program a huge success! We look forward to working with each and every one of you.
