About the organization

Mount Pleasant is committed to meeting the educational needs for the growth and development of every student in an atmosphere of courtesy, consideration and care.  We endeavour to meet the varied needs of our children particularly through early intervention programs in language development, social skill development, and emotional development. Mount Pleasant Elementary is a member of the KidSafe Community of Schools providing a program of activities for our students during winter, spring, and summer vacations. What you'll do

Assistant Coach

  • Play a leadership role in sports and recreation after-school activities with support and direction from the sponsor teacher and school staff

  • Sports vary over the year: soccer (Sept-Oct), cross-country (Sept-Oct), volleyball (Nov-Dec), basketball (Jan-March), and track (April-May).

Lunchtime Activities and In-Class Helper

  • Help plan and lead sports and other organized activities at lunchtime

  • Before or after lunch, assist teachers with their lessons by providing one-on-one or small group support for their in-class activities

  • Provide positive encouragement and work in a mentorship role to encourage students in reading and writing

Food Security Program Assistant

  • Receive food donations from local donors

  • Hand food over to students to take home for weekend food support

  • Wash and distribute fresh fruit and vegetables to classrooms

  • Organize and distribute snack donations to classrooms

  • Develop strategies for planning, organizing, and facilitating activities for elementary students while considering various learning styles, ages, and cultural backgrounds

  • Develop strategies on how to help students improve their literacy skills

  • Learn about creative and responsive approaches to language, social skill, and emotional development in a diverse educational setting

  • Hone your leadership, collaboration, flexibility, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Explore education as a possible career path

  • References may be provided for students who demonstrate commitment and exceptional engagement in their placement

  • Criminal record check

  • Passion for sports and working with youth

Lunchtime Activities and In-Class Helper

  • Criminal record check

  • Ability to take initiative and be self-directed

Food Security Program Assistant

  • Must be compassionate

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality


Assistant Coach

  • Familiarity with one or more of the sports mentioned

  • Experience with coaching or leading activities for youth

Lunchtime Activities and In-Class Helper

  • Experience leading activities for youth


Assistant Coach

  • Weekdays 3-5pm

Lunchtime Activities and In-Class Helper

  • Weekdays, 2 hours between 11am and 2pm
