Course information and restrictions

Students can be enrolled in one of two tracks: # Study in Kyoto Program: Intensive Japanese # Japanese World Perspectives Program (JWP)  SKP Track: Students majoring in Japanese are recommended to take Comprehensive Japanese and two other supplementary Japanese courses and can take courses from the Japanese World Perspective program. JWP Track: Students with little or no Japanese background can take courses exclusively from the Japanese World Perspectives program taught in English. *Traditional Arts Courses will be considered non-credit at UBC. Students attend practical workshops for 2 hours a week with little out of class work and no final evaluations (exam, papers). The Study in Kyoto Program is designed for university students with varying degrees of Japanese language proficiency from upper-elementary to advanced levels. The minimum requirement for admission is an upper-elementary level of Japanese language proficiency, i.e. completion of 200 hours of Japanese language study covering the first half of an elementary course (having mastered Hiragana, Katakana, and TE-form verbs, and having knowledge of approximately 100 Kanji characters and 800 words).

IJL Track is now open to all ability levels students without any previous experience can study Japanese
