About the program

Since 1990, EARTH University’s innovative educational approach has been preparing young people from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and other regions to contribute to the sustainable development of their home communities while constructing a prosperous and just global society. EARTH has extensive experience searching for innovative solutions to challenges in sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and natural resource management. Research at EARTH is applicable and actively involves both students and faculty.

EARTH has collaborated with institutions, such as the University of Florida, NASA and the National Biodiversity Institute of Costa Rica (INBio), to conduct collaborative research projects. Examples of research projects include: the search for a cure for Chagas disease, identification of agricultural uses for the by-products of ethanol production from sugarcane and the development of bio-indictor field guides for on-site water quality assessments.

Internship Program

The Internship program is designed to provide international competency and practical experience in the fields on EARTH University’s farms. In addition, you will have the opportunity to hone your Spanish language, learn alternative production systems, organic agriculture and innovative recycling systems.  For more information about the program check out the website.

Research Areas

The internship program at EARTH University offers the opportunity to learn through hands-on, career-focused work experiences in four distinct focus areas:

  • Tropical Crops & Medicinal Lants
  • Organic Agriculture
  • Integrated Livestock Management
  • Peri-Urban Agriculture

Eligibility and Prerequisites

Applicants should be registered as a senior undergraduate student,

Language Requirement: All daily communication will be in Spanish and an intermediate level is recommended. Applicants should consider participating in EARTH's  Intercultural Spanish Learning Program before or during the internship.



Guaranteed housing in Student Residence on campus (included in program cost).

Program costs and fees

USD $1699 (Includes: tuition, room and board, on campus services and administrative fees) for 4 weeks.

How to apply

How to apply

  1. Review the project list or available labs on the partner website to ensure there is a project or lab you are interested in
  2. Apply to register your interest with Go Global online
  3. Go Global reviews all applications on a rolling basis and contacts students with partner application instructions within 2 weeks of submission.
  4.  Each partner application may request different supporting documents. Prepare to have the following documents ready to include with your partner application:
    • Official transcript (provided by Go Global)
    • Motivation Letter
    • Copy of Passport
    • Proof of International medical/travel insurance.

Once you’ve collected all documents, submit your partner application and inform Go Global of your submission.

Go Global Fee and Withdrawal Policy

If you are accepted by a host university for a structured research program, you will be asked to confirm you participation in the program and you will be charged the Go Global fee of $415. The fee will be posted to your SSC account following confirmation of your acceptance. Go Global will contact you with complete information on how to pay the fee.

You will not be able to make payment in-person at Brock Hall (Vancouver), University Centre (Okanagan), the Go Global office or your financial institution. You cannot pay this fee directly through your financial institution’s online banking interface as payments made through this method will only be counted towards your tuition and your Go Global fee will remain unpaid.

Students who withdraw from a research abroad program due to extenuating circumstances or within 15 days of the fee being posted are eligble for a fee adjustment from $415 to $93.25.
