About the Program

The Tsinghua International Summer School - Experiencing China is an intensive 2-week summer program provides students with an inside look into the fascinating and diverse world of China. Students choose from 13 program tracks, which will be led by an academic tutor for in-depth exploration to see how global issues play out in the Chinese context through interactive classes and panels. They will also get to experience Chinese culture through excursions and cultural activities built into the program. Together with the summer school's international cohort of over 300 students, students will have the opportunity to ake new friends from all corners of the globe while gaining critical skills in cross-cultural communication and global competence.

Additional Requirements or Restrictions

Must be at least 18 but no more than 30 years of age as of July 15th, 2018 and be in good health. Not open to students with Chinese, Hong Kong or Taiwanese citizenship.

Course Credits

You will select one program track for 2 Tsinghua credits. Please note that 20 Tsinghua credits = 15 UBC credits.

Tuition and Fees

The program costs include the registration fee, course instruction, two weeks of on-campus housing (mainly en-suite single rooms) and basic accident insurance for the two-week period in Beijing.

The College is granting ten scholarships to cover the program costs. Scholarships will be assessed on a competitive basis, and students must apply through and be nominated by UBC Go Global in order to qualify. 

Please note that scholarship students will still be responsible for their own airfare costs, personal expenses and Chinese visa applications.

How to apply to a Go Global Summer Program

  1. Ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements, including any partner or program-specific requirements. 
  2. Apply online by the Go Global deadline listed above. Please submit only one application for the summer program of your choice (you can include a second choice as a backup on the same application if needed by selecting the "Add Item" button). If you plan to do multiple experiences (e.g. more than one summer program; a term exchange and a summer program, etc.), please submit a separate application for each experience. Our team will review your application and if successful, will nominate you to apply to the partner institution. 
  3. Pay the Go Global Fee when prompted after the application deadline.
  4. If successfully nominated by Go Global, you will receive instructions on how to apply to the partner university. This application typically includes the supporting documents listed below:
    1. Recommendation letter from a UBC professor in a field similar to the summer opportunity
    2. UBC Transcript (Go Global will provide you with a copy of your UBC transcript)

Go Global Refund Policy for Summer Programs

To receive a refund from Go Global, you must withdraw by e-mail to your Go Global advisor by March 30.

You are eligible for a refund of $321.75 if:

  • You have applied to Go Global but do not meet our minimum eligibility requirements
  • Go Global cannot match you to a partner university
  • The partner university does not accept your application and Go Global cannot find another option

You will receive an $93.25 refund if you withdraw from the program in writing before March 30 for reasons other than those stated above.
