Ranjit Singh AZAD Memorial Scholarship

One or two scholarships to a total of $1,050 have been established in memory of Ranjit Azad by his family. Until his death in 1985, Mr. Azad pursued a career in the field of labour and immigration with both the federal and provincial governments. His life-long interest in music, literature and especially poetry, was most notably manifested by his translation of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam from the original Persian in to his own Punjabi dialect. The scholarship(s) will be awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Creative Writing to undergraduate or graduate students in the Department who have demonstrated excellence in the writing of poetry.
