George McWHIRTER Prize in Poetry

A $2,650 prize has been endowed by colleagues, friends and students in honour of George McWhirter's retirement and in recognition of his thirty-five years of teaching at UBC. A recipient of the Sam Black Award for Education and Development in the Visual and Creative Arts, George has assisted hundreds of young writers in their careers. The award is made on the recommendation of the Creative Writing Program to an undergraduate student specializing in poetry.
