G. G. MOE Prize in Agronomy

Award descriptionA $450 prize is made available through an endowment established by Dean Emeritus Blythe Eagles, Mrs. Eagles and colleagues in honour of Dr. G. G. Moe, who for 35 years served the University as Professor of Agronomy and made outstanding contributions to the development of sound agriculture in BC. This award is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the appointment of Leonard S. Klinck as Dean of Agriculture, May 11, 1974. Dr. Moe, second head of the Department of Agronomy, shared the teaching of genetics on campus with Biology and Botany and was also a distinguished plant breeder. He initiated the production and maintenance of pure lines of cereal grains and brought international acclaim to UBC as the primary developer of Rhizoma alfalfa. Candidate is a fourth year student in Plant or Soil Science with interests in the field of Agronomy with the highest aggregate standing in third and fourth year subjects, including graduating thesis. This prize is one of a series of awards designated as the Agricultural Sciences Founding Faculty Prizes, established to honour those responsible for the organization and development of the Agricultural Sciences at UBC.
