H. M. KING Prize in Animal Science

Award descriptionA prize of $2,250 has been endowed as a tribute to the effective leadership Professor King gave to the Department of Animal Science and to the livestock industry of British Columbia for more than 36 years. He was an excellent teacher and did much to improve the dairy cattle of the province by his herd classification work. He served the Pacific National Exhibition for 52 years as director and for two years as its president. It is awarded to the fourth year student in Animal Science who obtains the highest aggregate standing in the subjects of the third and fourth years, including the graduating essay. This prize is one of a series of awards designated as the Agricultural Sciences Founding Faculty Prizes, established to honour the men who were responsible for the organization and development of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of British Columbia. On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the appointment of Leonard S. Klinck as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, May 11, 1974, these prizes were originally established by Dean Emeritus Blythe Eagles and Mrs. Eagles and were permanently endowed by the Sigma Tau Upsilon Honourary Fraternity to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
