Acceptance deposits

When you accept your offer of admission, you will be required to pay a non-refundable acceptance deposit in your Student Service Centre (SSC).

Your acceptance deposit counts as your first registration deposit, and will be applied to your tuition fees after you register for classes. Read about acceptance deposits in the Academic Calendar.

If you’re a graduate student, your program will let you know if you need to pay a registration deposit.

Paying your acceptance deposit

Paying with your bank card using Interac® Online

Interac® Online is available for Canadian accounts at the following financial institutions:

  • Scotiabank
  • RBC Royal Bank
  • TD Canada Trust
  • BMO

Log into your SSC and select the “Interac” option in “Pay Fees” under Finances. Successful payments will be processed immediately.

VISA debit cards cannot be used with Interac® Online. You will also need to confirm with your financial institution that your daily Interac® limit will be enough to cover your payment.

Paying with your credit card online

To pay with your credit card online, log into your SSC and select “Credit Card” in “Pay Fees” under Finances. Successful payments will be processed immediately.

Registration deposits

Starting Winter Session 2021, the registration deposit has been removed from most undergraduate degree programs. Registration deposits are required for most certificates and diplomas.

If you are required to pay a registration deposit, you will see your deposit in your Student Service Centre (SSC) under “Pay Fees” once your registration date has been released.

Your registration deposit is refundable until you register for a course. As soon as you register for a course, your deposit becomes non-refundable and non-transferrable to a future registration session.

International Funds Transfer (Western Union) cannot be used to pay for registration deposits as it can only be used to pay for tuition.

Important: If you have to pay a registration deposit, make sure you pay it before your registration date and time. It may take 1 - 2 days to process, depending on the payment method.

Paying your registration deposit

Paying with online banking

You can set up online banking to pay your UBC tuition and fees like any other bill. Payments will take 1-2 business days to process.

To pay with online banking, you'll need a bank account at a Canadian financial institution. Add “UBC Tuition” as a bill payee and use your student number as the bill's account number.

Paying with your bank card using Interac® Online

Paying with Electronic funds transfer (EFT)

Bank transfer and EFT payments transfer funds directly from your Canadian bank account. Successful payments will be processed immediately.

  1. Log in to your Student Service Centre (SSC).
  2. Select “Banking Details”.
  3. Enter and save your bank's institution, transit, and account numbers.
  4. Pay your fees by selecting “Pay Fees” under Bank Transfer.

Similar to a cheque, bank transfer and EFT payments may be returned by your financial institution due to:

  • Insufficient or unavailable funds
  • Incorrect account details
  • Lack of chequing privileges for the account
  • A closed account

If your payment is returned, the funds will be reversed out of your student account. This may result in your account being placed on financial hold, as well as being charged interest and a $35 hold fee.

Paying with your credit card online

To pay with your credit card online, log into your SSC and select “Credit Card” in “Pay Fees” under Finances. Successful payments will be processed immediately.

Paying by cash or cheque at any HSBC branch

You don't need to be an HSBC Bank customer to pay your fees at a HSBC branch. HSBC in-person payments take 2 business days to be processed.

To pay, complete a Tuition Fee Payment Form and bring it to any HSBC Bank Canada branch with your cheque payment. You only need the tuition form only if you're paying at HSBC, and are not required to submit a copy to UBC. Cash payments are not accepted through HSBC.
