Registration and acceptance deposits

Acceptance deposit payment options

When you accept your offer of admission, you'll be required to pay a non-refundable acceptance deposit on the Student Service Centre (SSC).

Your acceptance deposit counts as your first registration deposit, and will be applied to your tuition fees assessed after you register for classes.

Read about acceptance deposits in the Academic Calendar.

  • BMO

Successful payments will be processed immediately.

Credit card: Registration deposit

Pay with your credit card through the Student Service Centre (SSC)

Log on to the Student Service Centre (SSC) and select Finances > Pay Fees > Credit Card.

Successful payments will be processed immediately.

Registration deposit payment options

Before registering for courses, returning students have to pay a registration deposit, which will be applied toward your tuition. You'll see your deposit on the Pay Fees screen on the SSC once your registration date has been released.

Your registration deposit is refundable until you register for a course. As soon as register for a course, your deposit becomes non-refundable, and non-transferrable to a future registration session.

Important: Make sure you pay your registration deposit before your registration date and time. It may take a day or two to process, depending on how you pay.

Online banking

Set up online banking to pay your UBC tuition and fees like any other bill.

To pay with online banking, you'll need a bank account at a Canadian financial institution. Add UBC Tuition as a bill payee and use your student number as the bill's account number.

Payments will take 1-2 business days to process.

Interac® Online

Pay with your bank card through the Student Service Centre (SSC)

Interac® Online is available for Canadian accounts at the following institutions:

  • Scotiabank
  • RBC Royal Bank
  • TD Canada Trust
  • BMO

Log on to the Student Service Centre (SSC) and select Finances > Pay Fees > Interac.

Electronic funds transfer (EFT)

Bank transfer and EFT payments debit funds directly from your Canadian bank account.

  1. Log in to the Student Service Centre (SSC)
  2. Select Banking Details
  3. Enter and save your bank's institution, transit, and account numbers
  4. Pay your fees by selecting Pay Fees > Bank Transfer

Successful payments will be processed immediately.

Similar to a cheque, bank transfer and EFT payments may be returned by your financial institution due to:

  • Insufficient funds or funds not available
  • Incorrect account details
  • The account doesn't have chequing privileges
  • Closed account

If your payment is returned, the funds will be reversed out of your student account. This may result in your account being placed on financial hold, as well as being charged interest and a $35 hold fee.

Credit card: Registration deposit

Log on to the Student Service Centre (SSC) and select Finances > Pay Fees > Credit Card.

Successful payments will be processed immediately.

Cash or cheque at any HSBC branch

You don't need to be an HSBC Bank customer to pay your fees at a HSBC branch

You can pay your registration deposit or tuition fees by cheque or cash at any HSBC Bank Canada branch. Bring a Tuition Fee Payment Form with your payment.

HSBC in-person payments take 2 business to be processed.

  • If you're paying cash, we recommend that you use Canadian dollars. Foreign currencies are accepted, but you'll pay a service fee and it will take 4 - 5 business days for your payment to be applied to your UBC account.
  • If you have an HSBC account, you can pay tuition fees with online banking, or with cash or cheque at the teller. For more information about paying online through your account visit the HSBC website or call 1.888.310.4722.

The nearest HSBC Bank branch is located at 4480 West 10th Avenue at Sasamat Street. You can find more locations on the HSBC website.

You only need the tuition form only if you're paying at HSBC. You won't be required to submit a copy to UBC.

Cheque or money order by mail

This option is not recommended unless you have no other alternative. Mail systems may be unpredictable; for this reason, deposit and tuition payment by mail should be a last resort for students who cannot use alternate payment methods.

To pay by mail, send a cheque (from a Canadian or US bank) or money order (in Canadian dollars), with your student number written on the front, payable to "The University of British Columbia" to:

Enrolment Services - Tuition Payment, The University of British Columbia, 1874 East MallVancouver, BC Canada V6T 1Z1

Please allow two to three weeks for processing. Do not send cash.

A completed Tuition Fee Payment Form must accompany tuition payments. Payment must reach the Enrolment Services by the due date. Download and complete this form only if you wish to mail in your tuition payment.
