Scholar's Community

About Scholars Community

Students who receive major awards have unique interests and responsibilities and face particular challenges. As a result, UBC created the Scholar's Community to ensure top scholars receive the support and inspiration they need to achieve their best.

The UBC Scholar's Community is an award-winning student program that helps domestic major and renewable award recipients manage the academic and personal expectations of their awards by providing a support network of students facing similar pressures. The community empowers scholars to meet their academic and professional goals by offering opportunities that encourage social and personal wellbeing, promote academic and professional development, and encourage leadership and community engagement.

The Scholar's Community was recognized in the 2020 NASPA Excellence Awards as the Gold recipient in the category of Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, First-year, Other-year Orientation, and related Excellence.

You are eligible to join the Scholar's Community if you receive a major renewable award from a number of categories, including:

Maintaining your membership

To maintain your membership in the Scholars Community from year to year, scholars are required to:

  • Attend at least one Community event between September and April of each academic year
  • Complete a year-end survey about their experience in the Scholars Community

UBC understands that scholars are sometimes not able to renew their award funding. If this happens, you will still be able to remain in the Scholars Community and enjoy the full benefits of membership, as long as you meet the above requirements each year.
