Be part of the Peer Programs network

Provide support to your peers and gain valuable transferable skills as a Peer Leader.

The Peer Programs network is made up of student teams that work to improve the student experience. They run programs and events in areas like academics, careers, and personal development.

As a Peer Leader, you’re supported and mentored by UBC staff. The role also offers a great opportunity to build skills and experience through training and program implementation.

Make your mark at UBC

I started my UBC journey not knowing the mark I would leave because I didn’t know where to start. I embarked on my leadership journey by joining Science Peer Academic Coaches (SPAC), a Peer Program that focuses on students helping students achieve their academic goals.

As a Peer Leader, you'll join a community of individuals who want to help others–all while making the greater UBC community a better place to learn and grow.

Add value to the student experience

Peer Leaders are the voice of the students. We’re able to draw on our experiences and align them with the goals of Peer Programs, which allow us to better cater to students. Students are really appreciative of this support network!

Gain a ton of skills

SPAC has been the foundation of my leadership experience on campus. I have learned a ton of soft-skills such as non-verbal communication, team development, facilitation skills, and most importantly, what makes a leader.

In addition to all the people-skills I’ve learned, I became better at what I preached, including what it takes to be a great student. I discovered that time management is key and I'm lucky to be in a supportive environment of highly motivated coaches, who also love what they do. As I've learned various skills, I've become more self-aware and confident which has helped a lot, especially during interviews!

The Peer Programs network offers a variety of professional development opportunities. Your career development and professional goals are something they really care about and fully support.

Make meaningful connections

I've made friends in a variety of programs and through that, I've made many meaningful connections during my undergraduate experience.

In addition, the Peer Programs network is a place to meet other students who all want to create positive change on campus. Through my time at SPAC, I have had the privilege to give back to my community of peers.

As a Peer Leader, you grow and create a positive impact among the students you serve. Make your mark here—through peer programs.
