Walkabout Walks – Challenge Yourself to an Indoor Race

Harvesting Light and Chasing Genes: A Winding Path through the Landscape of Modern Biology

This talk will touch on the importance of not sticking to a single narrow path if you want to have an interesting and productive career.

Dr. Beverley Green was the first molecular biologist to be appointed in the UBC Botany Department, and used this opportunity to explore photosynthesis, one of her major passions. In this unique talk, Dr. Green will retrace her scientific journey through the world of botany as a part of Green College’s Senior Scholars’ Series.

Development for Google Cardboard Workshop

Why you should go

If you’ve ever been curious about Google Cardboard and wanted to know what it’s all about, this is your chance.

DETAILS

Google Cardboard is a cheap and super fun alternative to high-tech VR. This workshop will teach you how to create a 360 environment with your phone or 360 camera, to teleport to different VR environments, and more. You’ll need to bring a few things and download some programs onto your laptop before the workshop.

UBC REC - Yoga Rave

Why you should go

It’s like those glow-in-the-dark bowling birthday parties you used to go to, but with yoga.

DETAILS

This totally free event provides you with glow-in-the-dark paint to cover your arms and face with, and a limited number of yoga mats to borrow (or you can bring your own). This is yoga for all levels and abilities, designed to maximise fun and good times. No registration required, but arrive early for either (or both!) slots to ensure you get a spot.

Why you should go

This will be an evening of delicious food, games, prizes, and awesome music by UBC students.

DETAILS

Dress in your semi-formal best for this student-led event hosted by the UBC Chinese Students’ Association, UBC Music Initiative, and UBC Jazz Café Club. Pose with your friends at the photobooth, participate in group games, and enjoy dinner and refreshments at the musical and magical event.

UBC PhotoSoc: Light Painting Photowalk

Why you should go

Even if you’re not a seasoned camera pro, you can participate in this fun workshop/photowalk and learn how to do some crazy camera tricks.

DETAILS

If you don’t picture anything when you hear the words “burning steel wool photos”, google it right now. Then, come out for this event and learn how to make those pictures for yourself (and some other super cool light tricks). You’ll be led into a top-secret location in Pacific Spirit Park where you’ll be able to take some pretty sick photos with sweet pyrotechnics, yo.
