UBC Arts Food Truck Festival

Why you should go

You can finally try out the food truck that was always a little too far for you. And you’re helping a great cause.

DETAILS

All your favourite food trucks will be in one place during lunch. A dollar from your meal will be donated to the UBC United Way Campaign for A Week of Caring which goes towards supporting community programs all across Metro Vancouver. Stick around for live entertainment starting at 11:30 am!

Day of Learning - Envisioning our future at the 75th anniversary of Japanese Canadian Internment

Why you should go

You’ll get to hear from a diverse range of experts on topics that are as relevant today as they were 75 years ago.

DETAILS

Four events will explore past and present societal themes of xenophobia, racism, and discrimination, from the removal of indigenous peoples, to the incarceration of over 21,000 Japanese Canadians in 1942, and the rise of Islamophobia today.

Purple & Yellow Volunteer Night @ The Bike Kitchen

Why you should go

Free pizza! Along with that, you’ll get to learn how to fix up bikes from some handy and awesome folks.

DETAILS

Anyone is welcome to drop in and learn about bike mechanics. Experienced volunteers and a Bike Kitchen mechanic will be there to guide you with fixing up bikes from the campus Purple and Yellow bike share. You can even earn your own bike share membership after a couple of hours of volunteering!

Career Exploration Evening: Careers in the Settlement Sector

Why you should go

If you’re thinking about building a career supporting refugees and immigrants but you’re not sure where to start, this networking night is for you.

DETAILS

This is a part of the second annual After the Flight: Community-University Refugee & Migration Symposium. You’ll get the chance to learn about the settlement field from early-career professionals and meet other students also interested in this career path. It’ll be an informative mingle over food.

Why you should go

Learn strategies for sparking social change - and enjoy delicious Syrian food catered by Tayybeh while you’re at it.

This is the second event in the UBC Changemaker series exploring the realm of changemaking from the community, peers, and campus resources. This event’s topic is on Refugees, Displaced Persons and Newcomers. By the end of the night, you’ll have a better idea of the complexities of displacement.

Why you should go

Apple Festival 2017

Why you should go

This is a quintessential UBC community event that you have to experience at least once while you’re here.

It’s the 26th annual Apple Festival! This fundraising event helps support the UBC Botanical Gardens so grab some friends and head out for live music, apple tasting, cider, and more. While you’re there, check out the rest of the gardens and enjoy the fresh autumn air.
