We’ve put together a list of the top 5 things BC residents need to know about government student loans.
1. How to apply
If you’re a resident of BC, you can apply online through studentaidbc.ca to be considered for both federal and provincial loans and grant funding.
If you’re from another province, find out about how to apply through your home province.
2. How many courses to take
You must register in a minimum number of credits to be considered a full-time student. You can check the full-time course load requirements for your program in the Full-Time Course Load Guide.
If you’re planning on taking less than a full-time course load, you’ll apply for a part-time loan, which covers tuition books and transportation, but not living costs.
3. How much funding you can expect
The information you provide in your loan application will play a role in determining how much funding you’ll receive. After you’ve applied, you’ll receive an assessment from detailing how much funding you’re eligible for and when you will receive it.
4. How to apply for UBC Bursary funding
Bursaries are non-repayable awards based on unmet financial need. To be eligible for the UBC Bursary:
- Apply for your student loan by July 15 for the Winter Session
- Apply for the UBC Bursary through the SSC from August 15–September 15.
5. Where to go for help
