When the video (below) that uses tea drinking as a metaphor for getting consent first came out last year, it was all over my newsfeed. All types of different people loved the video and I can understand why.

Without trivializing a serious subject, it still manages to have a light-hearted tone and the message is simple enough that almost anyone will understand it. I think that it is an awesome starting point for talking about consent. But it is only a starting point. There is much more to consent than what the video explored. While it can be tempting to simplify consent into “hey, would you like a cup of tea?” it is important to remember that sexual assault has much more serious consequences.
