United Way is an organization that addresses local issues in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, such as poverty and helping at-risk kids reach their full potential. This week, there are a number of events happening across campus with all proceeds going to the United Way. Events include a spelling bee, cookie sale, and meet-up with a Sea Otter!

‘Writing Dissent’ without Writing People Off Featuring Robert Jensen

This talk will give the case for reasoned argumentation, even in these divisive times.

In 2001, Robert Jensen published a book that offered a model of radical writing for mass media that can engage rather than alienate. Since then, political alienation has spiked and engagement seems more difficult. In this lecture, Jensen will distinguish between radical and reactionary, and argue for a continued commitment to reasoned argumentation in civic life.
