Why you should go

This is your chance to check out all the fitness classes on campus—for free!

UBC Recreation offers tons of different fitness classes, like dance, boot camps, and martial arts—and they are all being offered for free this week! There’s no max amount of classes you can try, so go ham and cram your semesterly exercise quota into this one week—or, ya know, try out a few different classes, see what works for you, and make healthy, sustainable fitness plans.

If you’re anything like me, you might find yourself with questions about managing your time, balancing priorities, and staying on top of your responsibilities. The Wellness Peers at the Wellness Centre have set up a weekly session for students to stop by and get some useful tips on just those topics, whether you’re in first year, fourth year, or anywhere in between.

Why you should go

This is your chance to finally learn how to make those cool origami swans.

The Wellness Centre is hosting a new “Crafternoon” series every Wednesday, where students can stop by and learn a new Etsy-esque skill. Spend your lunch break making a bracelet, mug, or any number of other fun crafts!

Our amazing Universe: Astronomical revelations and new mysteries

Why you should go

This talk on the Cosmos and the Universe isn’t just for Science students.

DETAILS

There are lots of questions about the Universe and our place within it that humans have been thinking about for generations. If you’re interested in questions like “How did the Universe originate?”, “What is the Universe made of?”, and other small, no-big-deal questions, then this talk by French astronomer Francois R. Bouchet is right up your wormhole-shaped alley.

UBC Farm Fall Fair

Why you should go

Live your basic Instagram dreams out loud with pumpkins, pies, live music, and food trucks.

DETAILS

It isn’t technically fall yet, but this fair will bring all of fall’s fun and flavour early to the UBC Farm. Bring some friends to the food trucks, fill your stomachs with fresh fruit, and cozy up to hot and frothy drinks. There will also be some UBC Clubs represented, including Roots on the Roof and UBC Sprouts, so check out this fair if you’re interested in getting involved with growing, cooking, and eating local food on campus.

Mysterious Barricades Concert: A Cross-Canada Concert for Suicide Awareness, Prevention, and Hope

Why you should go

This free concert aims to bring hope to people at risk for suicide.

DETAILS

This Vancouver concert is one of 13 which will take place at the same time across the country. Hundreds of professional musicians, including UBC President Santa Ono, will play to bring hope to people at risk of suicide, to offer healing to those left behind, and to emphasize that we as a country and a community wish for the stigma of mental illness to become a thing of the past. You can get tickets below, or catch the livestream.
