Jump Start

Jump Start at UBC's Vancouver campus is a first year transition program for new international and Aboriginal students. It begins with a two-week immersion program in August and continues to support students throughout their first year at UBC. All international and Aboriginal students entering their first year at UBC are expected to register for Jump Start.

Who is Jump Start for?

Jump Start is designed to meet the unique needs of the following first year undergraduate students doing their entire degrees at UBC:

  • International students who are new to Canada
  • International students who have spent time studying at a Canadian high school
  • Canadian students who went to high school abroad
  • Students who identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit

To participate in Jump Start, you should be entering your first year in either of the following Faculties or Schools:

  • Faculty of Arts (including the Bachelor of International Economics)
  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Applied Science
  • Sauder School of Business
  • Faculty of Land and Food Systems
  • Faculty of Forestry
  • School of Kinesiology
  • Vantage College (registration for Jump Start not required if you're part of Vantage College)

The Experience

Your orientation and transition to UBC has two phases: The first is the Jump Start two-week immersion program in August. The second phase continues to support you throughout your first year at UBC.
