The Centre for Accessibility works with UBC Residence and Housing to assess whether students with disabilities are eligible for accessible housing units or priority placement in on-campus housing.
Student housing is a limited resource and successful applications are subject to availability. Placements are typically offered in year-round housing, in a building in which you are eligible to live.
Eligibility requirements
Course Load Requirements
The credit load requirement for UBC Student Housing is 9 credits per term. If you are unable to meet this for disability-related reasons, you can make a request through the Centre for Accessibility to remain eligible for student housing with a minimum of 6 on-campus credits per term.
Determine your eligibility
You may be eligible for accessible student housing if you are eligible for student housing and your disability or chronic health condition presents significant functional limitations, which meets one or both of the following:
- reduces your housing options
- requires you to live on campus to equitably access the full academic experience
Please review the information on UBC Student Housing’s Accessibility in Residence page to determine if you should apply.
How to apply
Application information
An application for accessible student housing does not remove the requirement to apply for housing and to be eligible for student housing generally. All applications for on-campus residence must be made through UBC Student Housing and Community Services by the appropriate deadlines.
Submit your application
- Submit your general residence application to UBC Student Housing and Community Services by the deadline.
- Complete the Accessible Student Housing Request Form. You must provide supporting medical documentation that explains the functional impact of your conditions and a clear and logical rationale that connects the requested housing with the impact of your conditions. The presence of a disability alone is typically not enough to support a request for accessible housing. If you do not have medical documentation that specifically addresses your condition with respect to housing, you may provide a copy of our Medical Assessor Form (pdf) that has been completed by your health care provider.
If you have questions
