About the role
UBtheChange Community Activators work alongside staff, community partners, and schools to plan and implement community action projects throughout the year. They support and mentor fellow UBC students to apply their strengths and classroom learning, while engaging directly with community knowledge and priorities. Through this work, UBtheChange Community Activators support community-identified goals and create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for UBC students.
Who can apply?
Students from all disciplines and years are invited to apply for the role.
Preference is given to alumni of the Community Action Days projects, former UBtheChange Activators, CCEL Grant recipients, and others with student leadership experience.
Qualifications
- Passionate about community engagement, social change, and justice
- Interest in understanding systemic injustice, power, personal positionality, and community strength in the Metro Vancouver context
- Enjoys collaborating with peers and community partners
- Excited to build skills in facilitation, reciprocal collaboration, and strengths-based leadership
- Respectful of diverse perspectives and lived experiences
- Reflective, open to feedback, and committed to growth
- Desire to learn through hands-on experience
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage tasks and deadlines
- Able to be adaptive, prioritize, and take initiative when needed
Time commitment
The time commitment for the position is 15 to 25 hours of independent project planning, including mandatory bi-weekly meetings on Wednesdays, 5:00 to 6:30 pm.
