Part-time funding for out-of-province students

Part-time funding coverage

The part-time student loan program covers:

  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Supplies
  • Transportation
  • Child care (up to the funding maximums)

Part-time funding does not cover living costs. If you need additional financial support for living costs, please contact your Enrolment Services Advisor to discuss your financial plan.

Eligibility to apply

Loans are available for students studying part-time at UBC. To be considered a part-time student, you must be registered in 20% to 59% of the full-time load listed for your program, which you can check on the Course Load Guide.

Not all programs are eligible for part-time funding. You must be in a program approved for full-time student loans. Contact your Enrolment Services Advisor to check if your program is approved. If you don’t have an assigned advisor, they’re still available to help.

Where you should apply

Your province of residence is typically the province where you lived for 12 continuous months before attending UBC, unless you are a dependent student, in which case your residency status is based on your financial sponsor.

If you’re an Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island resident, please apply through your province. If you are a resident of another province or territory, apply through National Student Loans.

How to apply

  1. Download the application form based on your home province or territory:
  2. Fill out your application form and contact Enrolment Services for instructions on submitting your part-time student loan application. You will receive an assessment from the loan provider detailing what kind of funding you’ll receive and when you’ll receive it.

Your funding will be sent to you through direct deposit by your loan provider after your enrolment has been confirmed by UBC.

Students with previous part-time loans

If you have a previous part-time government student loan and are returning to part-time or full-time study, you do not need to begin repayment. However, you must inform your lender that you are returning to study.

Please review the information for students with previous loans.
