About the group
This group is about building community connections, sharing resources, and supporting you to thrive as your most authentic self. The primary focus of the group will be to create meaningful and supportive connections with other students, ourselves, and with trans histories and solidarities across time and space.
The group is centred on the values and teachings of intersectionality, neuroqueering, decolonization and the Disability Justice movement. The facilitators want to uplift and honour the unique and intersecting identities of students across a range of gender identities.
Topics will be determined by the interests of the participants. Some possible topics include:
- Gender Identity and Mental Health: Supporting You to Thrive
- Information and Support for Accessing Gender: Affirming Care and Services
- Relationships of All Kinds!
- Navigating Your Unique and Shifting Gender Identity and Presentation
- Solidarity, Resistance, and the Legacy of Community Resilience
- Transphobia and Safety
- Navigating University Life and Academic Demands as a Non-Cis Student
- Gender Struggles and Gender Euphoria
Eligibility
This group is open to UBC Vancouver students who identify as Two-Spirit, trans, gender diverse, non-binary, genderqueer, and those who are exploring their unique gender identity. This list is non-exhaustive. Facilitators are grateful for the wonderful diversity of genders in existence, and students who are not cisgender but have explored or are exploring a gender identity not listed here are very welcome to join.
Group sessions will be held in person. To safeguard the group, the location will be shared with participants following an intake with the facilitators.
We recognize the unique individual needs of each student and aim to provide an accessible group experience. If you have questions or concerns about accessibility please feel free to reach out to Ari at ari.willis@ubc.ca or on their direct line at 604 822 6902.
