Grad Student Support Group

About the group

Are you a graduate student? Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or challenged in balancing work and life? This in-person support group is for graduate students to connect with each other in a non-judgmental and welcoming space to help navigate the unique challenges of grad school.

Topics are generated by participants so that relevant themes may be addressed. Past discussions have focused on topics such as:

  • Coping with the graduate student experience and demands
  • Isolation and making connections
  • Motivation
  • Procrastination and perfectionism
  • Feelings of being an imposter
  • Managing work relationships and communication
  • Work/life balance and setting boundaries
  • Building resilience, self-compassion and self-agency

You can learn new coping strategies and skills, and get connected to helpful resources.

Group sessions are standalone, and you can join the support group at any point across the term. You’re welcome to attend as many, or as few, group meetings as you find helpful, though we recommend regular attendance as it builds community.

Eligibility

This group is open to UBC Vancouver graduate students. Group sessions will be held in person. Students will need to be on campus in order to participate in the group.

We recognize the unique individual needs of each student and will provide alternate options if group programming is not an appropriate referral option or fit.
