About the clinic

The Koerner Pavilion Student Health Service clinic is located in the UBC Hospital. If you require any assessment, investigation, or management of general acute or chronic health conditions, visit the clinic to consult a family physician, a specialist (dermatologist, gynecologist, psychiatrist, sports medicine specialist, and respirologist), or a primary care and mental health nurse.

Appointments are available to students in British Columbia by phone, video, or in person. If you're outside of British Columbia, find free wellbeing support specific to your needs.

Clinic services

Services at the clinic include, but are not limited to:

  • Contraception management and pap tests
  • STI testing
  • Vaccinations and immunization reviews
  • Diagnosis, treatment, and prescription management for mental health concerns
  • Referral to other specialties
  • Distribution and training in naloxone kits
  • Third-party medical forms
  • Acupuncture
  • Wound management

Please view certain fees (pdf) that apply for particular types of tests, appointments, forms, and equipment. The fees are also listed for patients without health insurance.

What to expect

This is the most common experience at Student Health Service and may not be the same for everyone. When necessary, we make adjustments to meet a student's individual needs.

1Book an appointment

If you're in British Columbia, book an in-person, virtual (video), or phone appointment through the online form. You cannot book an appointment by email.

For procedures, nursing, or urgent concerns, please call Student Health Services at 604 822 7011. If you're looking to book your first mental health appointment, contact Counselling Services at 604 822 3811.

2At your appointment

Please arrive on time to the clinic for your in-person appointment. If you've selected a virtual appointment, Student Health Services will contact you through your chosen method at your appointment time.

3Referral to a specialist

If necessary, your doctor or nurse practitioner may refer you to a specialist.

4After your appointment

Follow the information provided by your doctor, nurse practitioner, or nurse. Check your email if you are expecting a follow-up message.

Cancelling your appointment

If you need to cancel your scheduled appointment, please call 604 822 7011 as soon as possible, or you may be charged a fee for missed appointments.

Patient Portal for existing patients

If you’ve booked an appointment with Student Health Service and provided your consent to use the online Patient Portal, you can access the tool for the following:

  • Change your appointment time
  • Read and respond to messages from the clinic
  • Update your contact information

Appointments for varsity athletes

Medical appointments for varsity athletes takes place at the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Clinic at Chan Gunn Pavilion. For more information, please reach out to your Athletic Therapist.

Email instructions

If you are asked to email your documents to student.health@ubc.ca, do not send any medical information through email without encryption, including the symptoms you might have. Please call 604 822 7011 for encryption instructions if you plan to send medical records or details.

Confidentiality notice

Release of information

Student Health Service cannot release information about you, the type of services you access, and the content of your appointments to anyone (including family) without your written permission, except for the following:

  • Information indicating that a child is in need of protection
  • Information indicating that you may constitute a risk to yourself or others (an exception is Naloxone appointments, which are always kept confidential)
  • Information that leads to concerns about public safety
  • Other statutory or common-law provision that requires or authorizes the release of confidential information

If you wish to release your medical record information to another individual or medical care office, you’ll need to fill out an authorization form at your appointment.

If you have any questions about confidentiality, you will have an opportunity to ask during your visit.
