About UBC Collegia
Are you an incoming first-year commuter student or Indigenous student?
Collegia offers welcoming, lounge-like spaces located across the UBC Vancouver campus, perfect for studying, relaxing, or connecting with your peers between classes. It’s also a community where you can ask questions, get guidance from upper-year students, and build friendships that can support you throughout your time at UBC.
Collegia programs
There are 2 Collegia programs available at the UBC Vancouver campus:
- First Year UBC Collegia
Available to first-year undergraduate students who don’t live in a UBC residence and have graduated high school within the last 2 years. - Šxʷta:təχʷəm
For self-identifying Indigenous graduate and undergraduate students. By registering, you’ll gain access to both the first-year Collegia community, as well as the šxʷta:təχʷəm community.

About the space
Your UBC Collegium is a place where you can take a break between classes to socialize, use a kitchen, or relax in a comfortable, friendly, and welcoming environment.
Amenities in each space include:
- Bright, open space with floor-to-ceiling windows
- Kitchen facilities with an oven, microwaves, refrigerators, small appliances, dishes, and cutlery
- Study spaces with desks, lamps, and shelves
- Comfortable lounge chairs, sofas, and fireplace
- Bathroom and shower facilities with lockers
- Secure Wifi and plenty of outlets to charge your devices
- A social area with board games, cards, and activities
How to join First Year UBC Collegia
To be eligible for the UBC Collegia program, you must meet the requirements below:
- You’re in first-year standing of a direct-entry undergraduate program at UBC.
- You don’t live in UBC residence.
- You’ve graduated from high school within the past 2 years.
If you’re registered for Jump Start 2025, you’ll be automatically enrolled in the year-long UBC Collegia program.
While Indigenous students of all years are welcome at šxʷta:təχʷəm without requiring registration, first-year Indigenous students who commute to campus are especially encouraged to register for the First Year UBC Collegia program.
UBC Collegia hours
First Year Collegia
First Year Collegia is open on Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm during the Winter Session (September to April). These hours may change during exam periods. First Year Collegia is closed on all statutory holidays observed by UBC.
šxʷta:təχʷəm
šxʷta:təχʷəm is open on weekdays during the Winter Session (September to April) except on all statutory holidays observed by UBC. The hours below may change during exam periods:
- Mon to Thurs: 9:30 am to 7:00 pm
- Fri: 9:30 am to 6:00 pm
Collegia Code of Membership
All new Collegia Members must familiarize themselves with the Collegia Code of Membership (pdf). You’re also recommended to review the UBC First Nations Longhouse Teachings.
Following both of these documents will help create a welcoming and inclusive shared environment in Collegia.
