About UBC Collegia
Are you an incoming first-year commuter student or Indigenous student? UBC Vancouver’s Collegia spaces are designed for you to ask questions to peer leaders, access resources, and enjoy social events together.

First year collegia
Your UBC Collegium is a place where you can take a break between classes to socialize, use a kitchen, or relax in a comfortable, friendly, and welcoming environment. Come hang out with other commuter students, take a nap, or find a study spot—you’ll always have a place to call your home away from home at UBC.
Collegia amenities
- Bright, open space with floor-to-ceiling windows
- Kitchen facilities with an oven, microwaves, refrigerators, small appliances, dishes, and cutlery
- Study spaces with desks, lamps, and shelves
- Comfortable lounge chairs, sofas, and fireplace
- End-of-trip facilities including showers and lockers
- Secure Wifi and plenty of outlets to charge your devices
- A social area with board games, cards, and activities.
šxʷta:təχʷəm
šxʷta:təχʷəm is a community for self-identifying Indigenous students, open to both undergraduate and graduate students. You’ll have a chance to meet each other, connect over your experiences at UBC, and learn from upper-year peer leaders and faculty members.
First-year Indigenous students will have access to both a first-year Collegia community, as well as the šxʷta:təχʷəm community.

UBC Collegia hours
First Year Collegia
First Year Collegia is open on Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm during the Winter Session (September to April). These hours may change during exam periods. First Year Collegia is closed on all statutory holidays observed by UBC.
šxʷta:təχʷəm
šxʷta:təχʷəm is open on weekdays during the Winter Session (September to April) except on all statutory holidays observed by UBC. The hours below may change during exam periods:
- Mon to Thurs: 9:30 am to 7 pm
- Fri: 9:30 am to 5 pm
How to join First Year UBC Collegia
You are eligible for membership to Collegia if you meet the following eligibility requirements:
- You are first-year standing in a direct-entry undergraduate program at UBC.
- You do not live in UBC residence.
- You graduated from high school in the past 2 years.
Please complete the registration survey to apply for the 2024/25 program.

All new Collegia Members should familiarize themselves with the Collegia Code of Membership (pdf). It is also recommended that you review the UBC First Nations Longhouse Teachings.
