Return to UBC and readmission checklist

Your deadlines and responsibilities as a returning student will differ based on your return scenario and your specific situation.

If you haven’t yet, follow the online guide on returning to UBC and applying for readmission, and review the common return scenarios first.

First, connect with advising

If you haven’t already, meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss course selection and degree planning, including your remaining requirements needed to graduate.

Then, contact an Enrolment Services Advisor to learn about admission requirements if you’re submitting a readmission application or returning as a mature student. You can also receive support with creating a financial plan, course registration issues, or clearing enrolment holds or debts on your account.

If you’re an international student, connect with International Student Advising first to review your visa and study permit with an advisor to ensure that you are eligible to study in Canada.

Next, review additional steps for your situation

Read the list below to learn what support is available for your situation and other steps you may need to follow to return to studies.

Connect with the Indigenous Student Support Team if you would like help creating a financial plan and require guidance on planning for the costs associated with returning to studies at UBC. The First Nations House of Learning (FNHL) provides services and activities to support First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students’ academic success and positive social and cultural experiences.

Connect with Joe Stevens, a designated UBC Vancouver campus contact for BC youth in and from care, before you submit an admission application and prior to re-enrolling.

All holds and/or debts must be resolved before you can re-enrol. Connect with an Enrolment Services Advisor for help.

If you had previous Canadian or US government student loans, you must notify your loan servicer if you are returning to part-time or full-time studies. Speak to an Enrolment Services Advisor for information about your eligibility for in-school deferment or interest-free status.

If a portion of your UBC fees is paid by a sponsor, please ensure your sponsor submits a Sponsorship Billing application before the start of the term. Learn more about your responsibilities as a sponsored student.

If you are interested in living on campus, review the eligibility requirements and apply for on-campus housing as early as possible. UBC Housing has a separate application process and deadlines.

Access other support and resources

Taking care of your physical and mental health through self-help resources or support from professional staff and peer communities is an important part of your return to studies at UBC.

The Centre for Accessibility can provide guidance and resources if you require support with medical or disability-related accommodations.

If you don’t plan to stay in residence while attending UBC, access resources to help you find housing, avoid scams, and more.

If you need help

Contact Enrolment Services during opening hours. You do not need to have an assigned Enrolment Services Advisor to reach out.

If you are an international student, connect with International Student Advising first.
