About the roles
As a Jump Start Leader or Collegia Advisor, you’ll support new students as they transition into university life, helping to build connection, confidence, and community. You’ll work closely with the Centre for Student Development and Leadership staff and other student leaders to create welcoming, engaging experiences where students connect with others and learn what to expect in their first year. These roles will support programs including Jump Start, Collegia, and Imagine UBC.
Jump Start roles
Jump Start Senior Orientation Leaders, Jump Start Orientation Leaders, and Jump Start Events Crew focus on the delivery of the Jump Start program for a one-week period leading up to the beginning of classes in September.
Collegia roles
Collegia Advisors and Senior Collegia Advisors focus on year-long community-building and student support, beginning with Jump Start and continuing throughout the Winter Term.
Position requirements
- You must be in good academic and non-academic standing
- You must be available for all time commitments as outlined in the job description
- You must meet all eligibility and employment requirements listed for the role on CareersOnline
Skills and qualifications
To be eligible for the roles, you must demonstrate the following:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization and time management
- Ability to lead and facilitate programs, activities, or group experiences with students
- Ability to adapt to new experiences and challenges with a positive mindset
- Comfort working independently and collaboratively with peers and staff
- Ability to build welcoming, inclusive communities for students from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences
- An interest to engage in ongoing personal and professional development opportunities
- The ability to represent UBC and its student leadership programs in a positive and professional manner
