Christmas Tree Recycling at UBC Botanical Garden

Why you should go

This is an easy way to get rid of your Christmas tree–before Easter, like a real #adult.

DETAILS

If you still have your Christmas tree lying around, bring it to the UBC Botanical Garden (with all decorations and tinsel removed) until January 8th. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support the SPEC Schools Program at Thunderbird Elementary School, which provides an opportunity for students to connect to food, nature, and their environment.

Hexsa’a̱m: To Be Here Always

Why you should go

This new exhibit challenges the concept that the practices of First Peoples are simply part of a past heritage.

DETAILS

Working together at Kingcome Inlet in Summer 2018, a group of artists used film, video, social media, weaving, animation, drawing, language, and song to address the urgent threats to the land and water. A manifestation of the relationships formed between the participants over this past year, this exhibition is based on sharing knowledge and respectful collaboration.

Why you should go

This is one of the biggest student-run conferences in Canada and features a great range of speakers and presenters.

Every year the SLC hosts a conference with a different theme; this year’s theme is “Beyond Your Lines”, with a focus on challenging you to step outside your comfort zone and colour beyond your lines.
