How to read transfer credit search results

Overview

The Transfer Credit Search Tool allows students to search for courses from their institution and determine how they would transfer to UBC.

The search tool does not include every course offered by other institutions. Included courses are based on those completed by former transfer students admitted to UBC.

The following guide describes how to read results generated from the search tool.

Transfer credit conditions

Conditions may apply to how some courses will transfer to UBC.

Condition Definition
Exemption

If a course is shown as exempt, you won't have to take this course at UBC to fulfill the prerequisite or degree requirement.

For example, "Exempt UBCV PHYS 101" means you do not have to take PHYS 101 at UBC Vancouver, even if it's a prerequisite.

Preclusion

If a course is shown to be Precluded, you'll have to take this course at UBC if it's required for your degree program.

For example, "UBCV ARCL 2nd (3), Precludes credit for UBCV ARCL 319" means you'll have to take ARCL 319 at UBC if it's required for your degree program and you would lose the 3 assigned transfer credits of ARCL 2nd. You can keep the 3 transfer credits if your degree program does not required ARCL 319.

No credit The course shown will not count towards UBC credit.

Effective date

The effective date shows the time period in which the course must be completed to receive the transfer credit.
