Chris LIN Memorial Scholarship

A $4,400 scholarship has been made available through an endowment established in memory of Chris Lin, who died tragically August 31, 1966. Chris was the son of Professor Paul Lin, who was Director, Centre for East Asian Studies at McGill University, and an alumnus of UBC. Chris was born in the US and brought up in China. He was a second year student at UBC at the time of his death. He was a fine, warm-hearted person with great promise; had he lived he would undoubtedly contribute to the furtherance of understanding and friendship between China and Canada. The recipient of this scholarship is a student, undergraduate or graduate, who meets the following criteria: (1) proficiency in Chinese equivalent of over 1 year intensive language study, concentration in Chinese studies, and academic excellence, (2) evidence of social concerns, good citizenship; the study and understanding of cultures and values. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens/permanent residents. Candidates should submit a CV including a brief statement regarding intentions and life goals to: Chris Lin Memorial Scholarship Committee, Department of Asian Studies. The award is made on the recommendation of the Department of Asian Studies.
