DESAI Graduate Scholarship in English Literature

Award descriptionA $1,000 scholarship is offered annually to a Masters of Arts, English Literature student in loving memory of Mr. J.V. Desai, who was a humble and brilliant man whose first love was for the English language. He was a grand-nephew of Mahatma Gandhi and a loving father who emphasized the importance of education, both in the theoretical and experiential sense. He recognized the importance of learning through travel and interacting with people. The ideal candidate would demonstrate an interest in travel and may be an international student or someone whose thesis investigates global issues. The award is made on the recommendation of the Department of English, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
