Awards totalling $8,950 have been endowed by William E. Millerd, C.M. (BA '65, LLD Hon '09), with matching funds from the Faculty of Arts and support from the community, for students to complete the Theatre Internship Program at UBC's Department of Theatre and Film. The Program offers professional work-study opportunities in the form of internship placements with local theatre companies. As Artistic Managing Director of Vancouver's Arts Club Theatre Company since 1972, Bill Millerd has helped launch the careers of generations of Canadian theatrical talent, including award-winning UBC alumni Brent Carver, Nicola Cavendish, Morris Panych, Ken MacDonald, Bruce Greenwood and Anosh Irani. Recommendation is made by the Department of Theatre and Film.
