Dean Rickey Yada Award in Land and Food Systems

Awards totalling $2,000 have been made available through an endowment established by Dean Rickey Yada (B.Sc. 1977, M.Sc. 1980, Ph.D. 1984, Hon. D.Sc.) for undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems who have achieved good academic standing and demonstrated community service, volunteerism and leadership skills. Before joining UBC as Dean in 2014, Dr. Yada worked at the University of Guelph, where he held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of Food Science, Assistant Vice President Research, Canada Research Chair in Food Protein Structure, and Scientific Director of the Advanced Foods and Materials Network (Networks of Centres of Excellence). His main area of research focuses on structure-function relationships of enzymes and carbohydrate biochemistry as associated with food quality and nutrition. In 2019, he was honoured with a D.Sc. from the University of Guelph. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and in the case of a graduate student, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
