Helmut and Donna MEISL Award in Medicine

Award descriptionAwards totalling $8,500 have been made available through an endowment established by Dr. Helmut (B.Sc. 1970, M.D. 1976) and Mrs. Donna Meisl for outstanding M.D. students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine. Preference will be given to students that demonstrate an interest in general medicine, family practice or other areas of primary care. After completing his education in medicine at UBC, Helmut worked as an emergency care doctor. Donna is an artist and graduated with a B.F.A. at the California College of the Arts, majoring in drawing and sculpture. Helmut and Donna established the award to highlight the importance of family doctors and to encourage students to pursue a career in this specialty in health care. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine.
