The AMS makes your UBC experience even better

As a kid growing up in Jordan, I would often volunteer at refugee camps. The experience let me see first-hand the positive difference I could make and was ultimately what got me involved with the Alma Mater Society (AMS).

As a student at UBC, you’re automatically a member of the AMS. What does that mean? It means that we’ve got your back. We know student life is not without its struggles, but whatever issues you might have—personal, academic, or social—your AMS can help.

AMS Clubs

Meet new friends

You know that thing you love doing? You’re probably not alone. The AMS has over 350 clubs you can explore. Bring a friend or meet new ones—there’s bound to be something for you.

AMS Events

Because university is more than just studying

Get into the swing of campus life during AMS Firstweek, 2 weeks of events and activities in September that will have you oriented in no time. And in April the legendary AMS Block Party closes out the year with a 7-hour music festival outside The Nest. In between be sure to check out Wednesday Pit Nights, a campus tradition where you can mix, mingle, or leave it all on the dance floor.

AMS Services

Support when you really need it

Got a situation you’re wrestling with? There’s an AMS service that can help:

Vice

Manage your vices. Whether you decide to achieve abstinence or find your balance with alcohol, drugs, or technology use, Vice is here to help.

Speakeasy

If stress or another issue is affecting your wellbeing, Speakeasy can help. Speakeasy provides free, confidential, one-on-one peer support for students facing a wide variety of challenges.

Safewalk

Travel securely across campus after dark. If you feel unsafe getting from Point A to Point B, Safewalk walking and driving teams can get you there safely.

Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC)

A fully independent, confidential sexual assault support centre on campus, the SASC provides education, support, and empowerment for people of all genders who are survivors of sexualized violence, as well as their friends, family, and peers.

Food Bank

For students facing food insecurity, the AMS Food Bank is ready to help, providing various non-perishable foods, personal hygiene supplies, and information on other available resources.

Tutoring

When you need help making the grade, AMS Tutoring offers group and private tutoring sessions in a number of subjects. Tutoring can help with coursework, assignments, exam reviews, and more.

Advocacy

If you’re facing a bureaucratic challenge or are up against one of UBC’s disciplinary committees, Advocacy is on your side, ready to advocate on your behalf.

Entrepreneurship Hub (eHub)

Got a great business idea but unsure of how to make it happen? eHub will help you explore your options and get you from step 1 to the finish line.

Behind the scenes

We're also working on issues like reducing student debt, bringing rapid transit to campus, and improving student housing—just a few of the ways your AMS makes the UBC experience even better.

As your AMS President I want to do everything I can to help you make the most of your time here. My door is always open so don’t hesitate to reach out.
