Thrive is a mindset and a week-long series of events focused on helping everyone at UBC explore their path to mental health. Event highlights include: Zen Meditation (to help you relax), special Thrive recipes at Agora Cafe (to nourish the body), and UBC’s Largest Zumba (for some fun and wholesome exercise).

Bike to Work (+ School) Week

Why you should go

There’s a celebration station on Oct 30 with music, snacks, and coffee!

Ride your 2-wheeled stallion to campus this week to feel good about yourself, spare yourself a trip on the 99, and…free snacks! The whole week is bike to work/school week, but bring your bike by Lee Square (outside the UBC Bookstore) on Oct 30 for some treats.

Irrationality in Law and Life: Heuristics and Biases in Legal Decision Making

Why you should go

Learn about the fascinating world of subconscious decision making.

This talk will discuss questions such as: Do judges really round murderers’ sentences to the nearest even-numbered year? Do parole decisions turn on the timing of judges’ meals? Are taller people really considered to be more truthful in court? Craig Jones, professor of law at Thompson Rivers University, will address those questions through a discussion on unconscious decision-making processes known as “heuristics”.

Floorball Championship

Why you should go

You don’t need mad skills to participate.

DETAILS

This 3-on-3 tournament is a mix of floor and field hockey, with just a hint of lacrosse. The event starts with a 10-minute learn-to-play session to teach you the specifics, followed by 3 games of round robin play and then playoffs! Register your team by 5:00 pm, Oct 29! More info.
