Get to know SVPRO

A few years ago when I started university I heard about lots of different resources for sexual assault survivors. But it was a lot of information with many contacts, and I could never pinpoint one place or office that was my immediate point of contact.

The Sexual Violence Prevention Response Office (SVPRO) on campus is now that single point of contact. It offers support for students at UBC and promises to believe survivors.

What is SVPRO?

SVPRO is the place to get help you may need. They offer a broad range of support services if you have experienced sexual assault or know someone who has.

They can provide emotional support, help with academic concessions and workplace accommodation, and explain reporting options. If you just want someone to talk to, they can also just listen. You don’t have to report your experience or go to the hospital in order to get help from the office.

You drive the support

At SVPRO, survivors are in charge of the supports they receive. Whether you want access to resources, or just a conversation, you decide the next steps to take. It is important to remember that sexual assault is never the fault of the survivor, and the office promises to believe all survivors.

What you can do

Learn about SVPRO for yourself and your community. Go see the resources that are available, refer a friend, and help create a safer community on campus.
