We're retiring Connect. Get ready for Canvas!

This past June, UBC announced that the university is moving to Canvas, a new mobile-friendly online course platform. You can log in to Canvas here, and learn more below.

Whether or not you’ve used Connect - the online platform that UBC has used for courses since 2012 - there are a few reasons to be excited about our move to Canvas.

Most importantly, Canvas offers a simple, intuitive interface that lets you spend more time learning and finishing assignments and less time figuring out how to find what you need. The majority of students and instructors who tried Canvas during the pilot phase said that it’s quick to learn and user-friendly. That said, anyone who needs assistance using Canvas can access email, chat, or phone support 24/7 from the help menu within Canvas for the next year.

Canvas also offers handy features that can help you stay on track with your assignments, including a calendar view that displays all your due dates for Canvas courses in one place. You can also set up your notifications preferences so that Canvas sends you an alert about important deadlines.

This upcoming Winter Session is UBC’s Canvas ‘soft launch’ phase, and UBC’s transition from Connect to Canvas will be taking place gradually over the 2017/18 academic year. This means that at some point, you may have some classes in Canvas while others are in Connect. Each faculty has developed its own timeline for moving to Canvas, but we can tell you that by September 2018, Connect will be a thing of the past, and all your classes will have moved to Canvas.
